West Midlands Fire Service

Blue Hippo have recently completed two further pieces of media for the West Midlands Fire Service: the 'Nursery Box' series and 'Fire Safety in the Home'.

The 'Nursery Box' series was part of a pack released by the fire brigade into nurseries across the country, teaching nursery school children fundamental fire safety practice, such as knowing your address, calling '999' and 'Stop, Drop and Roll.' We created three episodes of 'Ellie the Firedog', which outlined these simple lessons in a fun way, often leading into further classroom-based activities which were provided in the pack by the fire service. We also created three accompanying nursery rhyme sing-a-longs, with lyrics that highlighted the issues from each programme.

The overall aim of 'Fire Safety in the Home' was to create a high quality resource which was fully accessible to people with communication barriers through its visuality and the option of using both subtitles and British Sign Language. In reaching the widest possible audience, the DVD can reduce more accidental fires in the home by highlighting the potential risks and then demonstrating safe practice.

What they say about us

Everyone says 'Never work with children or animals.' West Midlands Fire Service Education Team not only asked Blue Hippo Media to work with them but to create a compelling, factual, fun set of films to get important fire safety messages across to pre-school children. Not only did they succeed, they surpassed our expectations.  More than that, the helpful, knowledgeable way we were led through the planning and filming made it an enjoyable experience for everyone who took part making each individual feel as important as the next; so much so that we are already embarking on filming for an older age group.
