Stemming from a nomadic family with roots in both Kenya and Jamaica, Jo was brought up in a remote house in the wilds of northern Scotland. That isolation combined with her family's frequent trips overseas led to the unique perspective evident in her remarkable music.

Her songs combine a strongly human empathy for the world with a feeling that somehow she always remains slightly apart, floating above us singing expansive lullabies as a commentary to our woes, our glories and our tragedies.
